Pebbles add a clean, natural finish to garden beds, paths, and drainage areas. They’re low-maintenance, long-lasting, and available in a range of colours and sizes to suit any garden style.

We stock decorative and functional pebbles including river pebbles, white pebbles, black polished pebbles, and natural stone in various grades. Pebbles work well around feature plants, in dry creek beds, and as a decorative mulch alternative.

Unlike organic mulch, pebbles don’t break down and rarely need topping up. They’re ideal for areas where you want a permanent, tidy finish with minimal maintenance.

Lay landscape fabric underneath pebbles to prevent weeds from growing through. A 5cm layer of pebbles over fabric gives a clean look that lasts for years.

Pebbles are also useful for drainage around the base of pots, in rain gardens, and along drip lines where water needs to flow freely.

Pebbles are a versatile and low-maintenance garden material. Here are a few things worth knowing:

  • White pebbles reflect heat and light. This makes them a good choice for brightening shaded areas but a poor choice around heat-sensitive plants in full sun, where dark mulch would keep roots cooler.
  • River pebbles improve drainage when used around plants. Placing river pebbles around the base of plants that hate wet feet (like succulents and Mediterranean herbs) helps water drain away from the crown, reducing the risk of root rot.
  • Always use landscape fabric under decorative pebbles. Without a weed barrier, soil works up through the pebbles over time and weeds colonise the gaps. Fabric keeps the surface clean and makes maintenance much easier.
