Fertiliser

All dirt is not created equal. In some cases, garden soil won’t contain enough nutrients for your plants to grow successfully. If your plants are struggling, adding fertiliser to your garden can provide the healthy nutrition that your plants need to survive and grow. It’s plant food.

Fertilising adds and replenishes important nutrients that contribute to the growth of your plants, like nitrogen. Fertiliser is one of the most effective ways to help your garden, and it’s essential if you have poor soil. Got a question about fertiliser? Ask our friendly team today.

Did you know?

A fertiliser is any mix of natural or chemical substances that encourage plant growth. Plants tend to have pretty diverse needs, so there are quite a lot of different fertilisers out there. However, most mainstream fertilisers work by combining these 3 essential plant nutrients:

Nitrogen. Nitrogen is perhaps the most important ingredient for healthy plant growth. It forms part of the chlorophyll cell, which powers the entire photosynthesis process. Nitrogen also aids leaf & stem growth and helps plants to absorb other vital minerals.

Phosphorous. This nutrient is also vital for photosynthesis, and it contributes to the production of starch and other helpful natural oils. It encourages your plant to grow strong, healthy root systems and is known to improve flower and stem formation.

Potassium. Finally, potassium is essential for plant growth. It helps to move all kinds of important things around the plant – including water, carbon, carbohydrates and nutrients. It also activates a large number of plant enzymes associated with growth.
