  • Screenings compact better than gravel for paths and driveways. The fine, angular particles lock together when compacted and watered, creating a firm surface that stays in place. Rounded gravel rolls underfoot and is harder to walk on.
  • A properly prepared base prevents paths from washing away. Compact the existing soil, add a 100mm base of road base or crushed rock, compact again, then add your screening topping. This layered approach gives you a path that lasts.
  • Lighter-coloured screenings reflect heat and stay cooler underfoot. If your path is in full sun, a lighter colour will be more comfortable to walk on barefoot during Melbourne’s hot summers than dark-coloured alternatives.
