Description
A productive edible fig with dark purple-black skin and rich, sweet red flesh. One of the best varieties for Melbourne home gardens. The large, dramatic lobed leaves are deciduous — falling in winter and returning in spring.
Grows to around 4-6m but can be pruned to keep it smaller. Figs are great eaten fresh, dried, in jams, on cheese boards, and in baking. Plant in full sun with well-drained soil. Water while fruit is developing for the best crop.
Botanical name: Ficus carica ‘Black Genoa’
