Description
A classic garden shrub with large, rounded flower heads in summer and autumn. Flower colour ranges from blue to pink depending on soil pH — acidic soils produce blue, alkaline soils produce pink. The broad, dark green foliage provides a lush backdrop to the showy blooms.
Grows to around 1.5m. Thrives in part shade with moist, well-drained soil. Frost tolerant and reliable in Melbourne. Prune spent flower heads in late winter. Feed with a hydrangea-specific fertiliser to influence colour.
Botanical name: Hydrangea macrophylla
