Description
A deciduous magnolia with deep, velvety, near-black burgundy-purple tulip-shaped flowers in spring. The dark flower colour is one of the deepest of any magnolia variety. Fragrant blooms appear on bare branches before the foliage fills in.
Grows to around 4m. Plant in a sunny, sheltered position with rich, well-drained soil. Protect from strong winds. A dramatic feature tree for Melbourne gardens.
