Description
A deciduous hydrangea with large, oak-shaped leaves that turn deep burgundy, red, and bronze in autumn — one of the best hydrangeas for autumn foliage colour. Cone-shaped white flower panicles appear in summer, aging to pink and then tan as the season progresses. The peeling, cinnamon-brown bark adds winter interest.
Grows to around 2m. Thrives in part shade with moist, well-drained soil. More sun-tolerant than mophead hydrangeas. Frost hardy and reliable in Melbourne gardens.
Botanical name: Hydrangea quercifolia
