Propagating Sand is coarse-grade sand that is ideal for cuttings, cactus and orchid back bulbs and to add to heavy clay soils to improve the drainage and prevent the clay particles from sticking together. As some seeds require stimulation to germinate, Propagating Sand provides a gritty, sandy growing medium that abrades the seed surface and encourages roots to grow into the compost. Add this to your sowing mix for enhanced results with difficult seeds.

Hardwood cuttings that take longer to form roots may need additional stimulation. Add some to your cuttings compost to encourage faster and better roots to form.

Lawns can become waterlogged, leading to root damage. By aerating the lawn and spreading Propagating Sand into the resulting holes, you can improve the drainage of the lawn and enhance the root health of the individual grass plants.
