Description

A small deciduous tree with showy scarlet-orange flowers in late spring and ornamental, jewel-filled fruit ripening from late summer through early winter. The fruit splits when ripe to reveal clusters of ruby-red seeds (arils) with a sweet-tart flavour. Good autumn colour before leaf drop.

Grows to around 4m. Plant in full sun with well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established and suits Melbourne’s warm, dry summers. Works as a feature tree, specimen, or in a large container.

Botanical name: Punica granatum
